Hotel Oceania

We absolutely loved our stay. The room was clean and quaint, and the staff were welcoming, kind, and helpful. Major sites are within walking distance, so it’s a great choice if that’s what you’re after.

The rooms are comfortable, though not fancy, and I’d suggest booking a Superior room. Breakfast was good, with great coffee and service, and the neighborhood felt very safe. Termini Station and the Metro are easy to reach, while the Colosseum, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Borghese Gallery, and lots of good nearby restaurants are all within walking distance. What stands out most is the hospitality at Hotel Oceania. The owners and staff were wonderful, went out of their way to welcome me, handle requests, and make me comfortable. The front desk is staffed around the clock. Nora and Mario were especially nice to talk to and had very good restaurant suggestions. The customer service felt like that of a five-star hotel. Many thanks to Nora, Mario, the owners Kira and Stefano, and the whole team for making it feel like home. I highly recommend this very well-run hotel.

The main disappointment came on our second stay. Room 11 had no Internet coverage for either night. The staff, including Mauricio, tried hard to get it working in our room, but couldn’t. At checkout they didn’t believe me and tried to show that the Internet was available. I told them to check with Mauricio. I found that petty. We stayed here twice, in two rooms, at the start and end of our Italy trip. The first visit was pleasant, and Mauricio gave us a map and helpful restaurant suggestions. If you want coffee before breakfast, make clear that you’ll pay for it. One morning I asked and was told they were too busy to make it, without being offered the option to buy it. I later had to ask for a discount on the extra coffees we’d purchased. They applied it to room 11, but refused it for the second room, which I was paying for. The €12 I asked for seems like a small thing to refuse.

There’s no complimentary tea or coffee in the room. I also found the employees intense, as if they were always keeping track of what you were doing, so I didn’t feel I had privacy. Other hotels where guests have to leave the key when coming and going haven’t felt this intrusive.
