Hotel & Residence Villa Tassoni

There’s a handy market within walking distance, and the bus stop is right nearby. It takes about ten minutes to walk to the train. The Vatican Museum is a long fifteen-minute walk, but an easy one. The place is tucked into a residential area and can be hard to find. We got a breakfast voucher for a small shop just up the street. Had a great stay, and the room had everything we needed.

We were surprised to find a little kitchen in our suite, so my two sons and I could make many of our own meals. That was useful since there’s no free breakfast or restaurant, and a nice grocery store is only two blocks away. The place is right on a bus line, though finding one with room can be a challenge. It was a delightful stay for a week and very reasonably priced. I’m planning to come back on my next trip to Rome.

The beds were comfortable, and the rooms stay cold during the winter months. The bathrooms are cramped, though, and water gets all over the place in the shower no matter how carefully you use it. We tried three rooms: 21 and 22 both had lots of bugs, and room 36 only gave us about five solid minutes of hot water. The hotel itself is okay, but it’s a fair way from the metro and there isn’t much nearby.

We had to leave. The rooms were filthy and smelled of sewage, the beds were ruined, and the mattresses were long past needing to be thrown away. There was no hot water, the stairwells were dirty, and things like the spoons were broken. Dust was everywhere and made it hard to breathe. Anyone with asthma could be in danger. After an hour and a half, we walked 700 meters to the supermarket to buy cleaning supplies and tried to clean the room, dishes, fridge, and kitchen as best we could. It’s a rundown catastrophe, and the hotel should close. It felt like nothing had been invested in it for at least 40 years, and the owner didn’t seem interested. The manager, though, was a nice man who tried to help and was taking complaints from everyone, like in the Polti hotel series. The false booking had made it sound like it was famous, but there was no breakfast or coffee machine.
