Hotel Star

Check-in was friendly, but that was the only good part. The walls in the room were dirty, and the toilet and shower hadn't been cleaned, even though they had the usual "cleaned and disinfected" badges. Breakfast was very basic, with cheap supermarket products, as is usual in Italy. The key locker system for checking in and out was very confusing.

It's not in central Rome, but if you're driving, it's handy to get to a nearby metro or train station. There's a good protected parking area, and the hotel is quiet, so we slept very well. The rooms were clean. Luigi at reception was very friendly and adjusted to our changed travel plans.

The place was really terrible, and I was very disappointed. The floor looked as though it hadn't been cleaned for weeks, the walls looked awful, and there was a bad smell. It felt more like a hostel for truck drivers than a three-star hotel for tourists. It might have deserved its 8.4 rating ten years ago, but not now. Breakfast was included, yet all we got was a cup of coffee, one yogurt, and a croissant. I wouldn't pay more than 30 euros a night for it. Very, very disappointing.

Staff were lovely, and my negative review isn't their fault. The hotel itself was very basic and definitely not worth what we paid. It was advertised on super.com as being in Rome, but after booking we discovered it was an hour away from Rome by bus. We wondered whether super.com had used the wrong address before booking and then switched to the hotel's actual location, making it a scam. Getting there late at night or on Sundays is impossible. It seems to be beside a motorway and petrol station, suitable for truck drivers, but not for people wanting to enjoy a Rome holiday. The location spoiled our whole stay.
