I know what comes with a two-star hotel: cracks in the walls, a TV that doesn’t work, maybe even shoeprints (?) on the wallpaper. But I don’t expect there to be no reception after sunset. Twice I came back after 10 p.m. and found the building’s front door open, then the B&B door upstairs unlocked too. I let myself in, took my room key from the shelf behind the counter with all the others, and went to my room. No one saw or heard me, and there were no cameras. Anyone could have done the same, a thief, murderer, or rapist. Nobody watches the keys or tracks who comes and goes, and even the building entrance is left unlocked. €85 for two nights is far too much for that. It’s the average price of a three-star hotel, where you wouldn’t have to hide your laptop under the mattress when you go out.
