Laterani Suite

The location was the reason we booked, based on reviews praising it, but that feels misleading. It’s near the historical centre, yet far from Rome’s main area for cafés, restaurants, and nightlife. For tourists, I’d look near the Trevi Fountain instead. That’s the truly amazing area, not this guest house. Right after charging my card, they told us the room was very small and uncomfortable. When we arrived, our luggage wouldn’t even fit. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and noisy whenever we moved. At 110 euros a night, I think 50 euros would be more reasonable. I wouldn’t recommend this guest house at all.

I’m giving it one star because there’s no option for zero or minus one. What a shame. We booked Laterani Guest House more than two months ahead, and got an email confirming they were expecting us. We then booked our flights and holiday in Roma. A week before we were due to leave, the guest house emailed, “oh by the way we cancelled your reservation today,” with no explanation. No one would explain by phone, just “only email only email,” and then nobody replied to the emails either. A guest house with nobody to speak to customers, apparently. Cancelling a full week’s booking just days before travel, especially in summer, is unprofessional and shameful. Travellers, be careful. If you want a fun, hassle-free holiday, choose somewhere else.

You can cook in the GH, keep food in the fridge, and make your own coffee. There’s a supermarket nearby, and the price is great for what you get. The staff are friendly, and it’s a convenient base if you like exploring on foot, about 15 minutes from Colosseum. One of the best guest houses I’ve stayed in. Thanks again!

Fabio cancelled our reservation two weeks before we were due to arrive, without telling us anything. If he’d contacted us, we could have worked out a solution, but instead he left us without accommodation for our trip to Rome. Nice, isn’t it? I’m giving this guest room one star. Looks like someone here only thinks about money.
