It was a small room, but clean, with a comfy bed, a nice bathroom and shower, and English channels on the TV. Very quiet, with lots of good restaurants around the corner and a supermarket 10 minutes away. We had bigger rooms in Venice and Florence, but both had issues. This one didn’t. Thanks to the owner. The location was great, and the bed was comfortable. The welcome snacks were nice, and having a small table and kitchenette was handy. The room itself was decent apart from being quite small and having a terrible view. Getting into the flat was hard to navigate. Check-in was at 2:00. We arrived at 2:20 after a nine-hour red-eye flight, but the room wasn’t ready and they hadn’t even started cleaning it. We could leave our bags there, but didn’t get the room until 5:00. They charged my card two days before our stay, then canceled our booking during the stay, supposedly because of an issue with my card. That affected the points we get through our booking service. When I challenged them, they confirmed there was no problem with the card but wouldn’t reactivate the booking on the site. Because of the service and all these issues, we won’t return.

Getting into the building and then the room required a mobile phone and internet connection. We only received the entry instructions after we arrived, and it took us nearly an hour to work out how to open the building door. That was frustrating and inconvenient. The booking process through the website was hectic too. They asked us for several credit cards to secure the reservation, then unexpectedly asked on arrival if we wanted to pay in cash, which seemed suspicious. Our booking was also canceled while we were already there, and we lost all our travel credits. The room itself was okay, and housekeeping was great. But there was a lot of mould in the shower, something that could easily have been dealt with using bleach. The acceptable room and good housekeeping were overshadowed by the difficult, questionable booking process, the cancellation, and the poorly communicated access arrangements. The whole stay was far from satisfactory.

The room felt stuffy, with the smell of stale air and strong artificial fresheners, as if they were covering something up. The air conditioning unit didn’t work, and there was black mold on the windowsill and in the bathroom. The shower drained poorly, and mold was on the shower wand and clogging the faucet aerator so the water wouldn’t come out right. The bathroom fan was motion-activated and stayed on for only 30 seconds, so I kept having to stick my hand out of the shower to turn it back on. The walls were paper-thin and I could hear the neighbors. In the middle of the night, someone pressed the downstairs doorbell and the bell outside the apartment, and it was horrendously loud. The room photos are misleading. This looks like a cheap construction inside an apartment unit, designed to look nice but made with very low-quality materials. There’s no concierge, and getting into the building is a pain, much harder than it should be. Don’t be fooled.
