Malenki B&B’s main advantage is its location. It’s in a quiet residential area, just a three-minute walk from Colli Albani metro station and the bus station, so getting to Rome city centre is convenient. The home’s interiors are nicely decorated. The room was very small, though, and the bathroom was tiny, like one on a train. Of the five places I stayed in Italy, this was the only bathroom without a bidet. The water flow was also very low. I told the owner, but nothing was done. Don’t be fooled by the low price, because you get much less than you pay for. I’d strongly advise avoiding this place.

The host was gentle and humble, and replied quickly. For breakfast, I could choose croissants, a ham and cheese sandwich, or salad. He showed me how to make Italian coffee, and I got so spoiled that I stopped buying coffee at cafes. Haha. Malenki was also good value compared with hotels and shops right by the attractions, with prices around 20-30% lower. In the residential neighborhood, Restaurant Sorentino served authentic Italian food. I could hardly believe lunch was only €14 for risotto, grilled chicken and fries, salad, and water. Dinner was different and not as cheap, but still reasonably priced. There were also several cafes where I treated myself to dessert platters, the Italian version of English high tea. A large green park is just five minutes away if you want to exercise. I was glad I chose Malenki: I could reach most sights, including Coloseum, Trevis Fountain, and Vatican City with St Peter’s Church, within 25 minutes by metro.

We stayed two in the quadruple room, which was spacious and well equipped. The furniture was modern and high quality, and the air conditioning was quiet. The bathroom was a little small, and breakfast was basic, though the host did bring us fresh croissants that morning. Getting into town was easy: the place is two minutes from the metro and a major bus station. There’s free street parking in the neighborhood. Some websites call it a hotel, but it’s actually a bed and breakfast.
