Melody Suite

Do not book this hotel. Stefano was rude and unhelpful, and wouldn’t offer a solution or return our money. We’d paid in advance for three nights. Their check-in hours are 1230pm-2000pm, but the online search engines don’t tell you that you can’t check in later. Stefano only contacted us on the day we were arriving in Rome to say we couldn’t check in after 8pm. The whole thing was misleading and not worth the hassle. DO NOT PAY IN ADVANCE.

The breakfast downstairs at ToastAmore was convenient. They serve juice, coffee or tea and a choice of bakery item, with the option to switch to something else within budget. The staff there were very nice, and the bar serves tea, coffee, giant toast, salad and yogurt from morning until late evening. Nearby there are plenty of restaurants, shops, a bookstore and grocery stores. The host was nice and explained everything in great detail when we arrived. Our room was clean and comfortable enough, though not very big. We stayed for 2 nights, got free bottles of water daily, and had fast, good internet. There was also a thoughtful set of information in the room, including a Rome map, recommended attractions, the nearby metro station and food delivery options. You’re asked to leave the room by 10 AM for cleaning, but you can sleep in if you leave a note at the reception desk outside. It’s about a 10 minute walk to Termini train staipn, and the main attractions are walkable too, though it’s quite a long walk. We enjoyed it.

We cancelled the day after booking because our friends were staying on the other side of the city. We travel with a debit card, and the full amount for the 4 day booking was held for 30 days after the full amount was preauthorised. The owner said it had nothing to do with him, while booking.con said it was Melody Suite. I emailed Melody Suite and got a scathing response accusing me of booking and cancelling places because I had nothing better to do, and blaming me. It was a terrible email, and I didn’t lower myself to reply. Be certain you want to stay before booking, and don’t assume the cancellation policy will work as you expect.

Stefano was a very nice and helpful host. The neighborhood was pleasant, and we enjoyed the restaurants nearby. Our room was clean and comfortable. I’d definitely recommend this place :)
