Minerva Monks Inn

Fourteen hours before we were due to arrive, the hotel cancelled our stay. We got no call, no message and no contact at all, just a Booking notification. Whatever the reason, they should have let us know. We're disappointed and embarrassed. We hate leaving negative reviews, and this is our first, but it's a shameful way to handle things. I repeat, shameful.

The common area felt more like a youth hostel, and this was the worst start to our holiday. The only real plus was the location. Rooms were okay but very basic, with old, slightly gritty bathrooms. Breakfast was basic too, and you had to get there early before supplies ran out. There were about four pieces of fruit for all the guests, and honestly the apples looked three weeks old. Breakfast was served at 8pm, which made it impossible to get an early start to beat the heat.

The stay was really nice, and the room was fine. Our only hassle came when we were leaving: the elevator wasn't available, so we had to haul all our bags down four floors.

We were surprised by how quiet our room was, especially right in the middle of Rome. The staff were wonderful, breakfast was good, and several of the city's must-see spots are just a short walk away. Thanks for a lovely stay. We'll come back when we're next passing through Rome.
