The room we booked at Romanticasa Nova was filthy and smelled strongly of urine, to the point that it was uninhabitable. Our stay more than two years ago was a nightmare, with extremely unpleasant hosts. The owner acknowledged the problems and promised us a refund, but it never came. We've spent over two years trying to sort it out and have only received rude, dismissive replies. It's a horrible place with a terrible host. Stay far away, however low the price is.

The manager did agree to reduce the price by 25% after seeing how disappointed we were, but that didn't rescue our supposedly romantic weekend in Rome. The area itself was pleasant, but the building was dirty and poorly maintained, and the apartment on the second floor had a strong damp smell that wouldn't go away even after the manager tried to cover it with scented tablets. It seemed like sewage odors were the real problem. The bathroom was barely 1.5 square meters, with a shower, toilet, and tiny sink packed in so tightly that using it took a lot of contorting. The household appliances were basic. Reaching the master bedroom meant climbing a very narrow spiral staircase. It had a sloping ceiling and no ventilation. No bookings for anyone over 90 kg or taller than 1.80 m. The name Romantic Navona sounded appealing, but the place was a huge disappointment. We stayed last weekend and came away with very bad memories.

The owner messaged us the day before arrival to say we could drop off our luggage early. But when we reached the door, he'd blocked us on WhatsApp and wasn't answering his phone. Now we're stuck in Rome while he ghosts us.
