Going back at 6 am was a totally different visit: just a handful of people, a beautiful sunrise, and a calm, almost magical atmosphere. There was no staff around, and people were moving the fences to get closer to the fountain. In the afternoon it was busy, as I expected, but the €2 entrance to the lower section was worth it for me. The queue moved fast, and seeing the fountain up close left me in awe. At that point the €2 felt like nothing. It’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen, and a highlight of my trip.

The €2 entrance, payable by card only, is on the right side if you want to get closer. The line moves quickly, so it doesn’t take long. Near the water, the place feels magical, especially with someone you love. It’s easy to stop for a moment and share some quiet time together in the middle of a busy city. Fontana di Trevi is a beautiful, romantic spot, and seeing it in person feels like a scene from a movie. The water, ornate baroque details, and soft evening light make it memorable. It can be crowded, but new barriers help manage the flow, so visitors can’t all go straight down to the fountain area. That makes things a little more organized and gives you room to enjoy it without being completely surrounded. Bring a small coin for the traditional wish.

Expect plenty of people, but the lively crowd adds to the atmosphere. The sculptures and architecture are even more striking up close than in photos, and tossing a coin is a fun part of visiting. At night, the illuminated fountain makes a memorable sight. It’s one of Rome’s iconic attractions and a beautiful place to see, though there are lots of crowds.

The area around it feels like a tourist trap, but the fountain and building are beautiful enough to make up for that. I recommend the water city tour, which takes you underground to see the ancient system that supplies the fountain.

The place itself is magical and full of history, just like you see in all those American movies. But the number of tourists in the plaza was overwhelming, all trying to get a shot of the fountain. It felt like being at a Super Bowl game, and you could barely even get into the square, let alone find a spot for a photo.
