Residenza Domiziano

The central location made it easy to get to popular attractions, and the complimentary breakfast was both tasty and varied. Our room was clean, nicely decorated, and a comfortable place to unwind after exploring the city. The staff were attentive and made us feel welcome throughout our wonderful stay at Residenza Domiziano. We were impressed by the thoughtful details and warm hospitality, and would highly recommend it for a memorable visit in the heart of the city.

We stayed here at Christmas in 2019. The garage parking is expensive, but if you're using public transport, this is a great lower-cost place to stay. The host was good, the location was excellent, and the rooms and well-kept bathroom were clean. The rooms were kind of small, but that was fine since we were out all day.

I'm sorry this is long, but read it if you're considering booking, especially with young kids. We paid almost 700 euros, and when I complained, they honestly couldn't care less. This was our first and last stay here. It's not a hotel, but a guesthouse, basically an old apartment turned into accommodation. The place was noisy, the rooms were only relatively clean and looked dated, especially the toilets. Breakfast was mediocre at best. The rooms were boiling even with the air conditioning on all day. I complained and they said they'd reset the unit, but it made no difference. The worst part happened on our last night, 18/06. We got back around 10:15 / 10:30 pm after a very slow restaurant service and were rushing to get our daughter to bed. We had a code for three doors: the main one facing the road, the front door into reception, and our room door. We got into the building, but the keypad at the reception entrance wouldn't work. We thought the code was wrong and rang the bell, but no one answered. Their website claims 24-hour reception, but there was nobody there. I called their number around 10-15 times without an answer. About 10-15 minutes later a Norwegian family arrived and had the same problem. They saw we had a baby and tried asking nearby businesses for another number, but couldn't find one. We spent almost 1.5 hours on the stairs with our sweaty, crying 9 month old, who needed sleep and a nappy change. I tried talking to other hotels in the building, without luck. It must have been 35-40 degrees inside, and I couldn't stop sweating. We kept calling the hotel, still with no answer. We were stressed and worried about our baby, and even thought about finding somewhere else to stay, though all our belongings were in the room, so that seemed pointless. We really didn't know what to do. Eventually the Norwegian family banged hard on the door, and a guest, who didn't look happy, let us in. The whole thing ruined our day and threw off the next day's plans because our baby slept until 10:30 am. When I complained at reception the next morning, the man behind the counter told me I shouldn't complain because it wasn't necessary. He said something like, “it's not that bad.” I don't know how he could say that after such a horrible, stressful, and somehow humiliating experience. He seemed unwilling to help and showed no sympathy, though I understand it wasn't his fault. He tried to minimize it, saying he'd sent a message through booking.com that said “sorry for inconvenience.” That was all. His Italian and English were both fairly basic, which made communication difficult, though I'm fluent in both languages. When he wouldn't let me speak with his manager, I said, “If you don't let me speak to the manager, I'm going to raise a complaint via booking.com so your choice”. booking.com did nothing either, and I won't use them again. The receptionist then told me how much I owed. My wife and I were so frustrated that we decided to pay and complain later. We just wanted to enjoy our last few hours in Rome. The receptionist eventually apologized in person. I said I accepted the apology, but someone needed to take responsibility for what had happened the night before. One star is a compliment.

Nice staff and a good breakfast. We had a good stay, and the place is close to all the buses we needed and the metro station.
