Rome Art Hotel

The location worked really well, with most major sights about a 20-40 minute walk away. Check-in was easy, the staff spoke English, and the front desk guy, whose name I can't remember, was awesome and very helpful. We arrived before check-in, so they stored our bags and we could use the first day in Rome. The room was across the street from the lobby, as other reviews mention, but that wasn't a problem for us. Four stars, and we'd stay again if we return to Rome. Thanks for the hospitality!

We had two rooms, and one had an older bathroom that was still well maintained. The rooms were cleaned daily, and the staff were friendly. The location was great, close to the Trevi fountain and Termini, and the window shutters helped keep the noise down.

The staff were nice and the location gets a 10/10, but this was nowhere near a 4-star stay, especially with a baby. Access was awkward, with big stairs, a heavy door, and no easy elevator route. Sometimes the elevator wouldn't open on the floor you wanted. The whole setup belongs in a museum, not a hotel, and it's a hassle with luggage and a baby. The room didn't match the listing. There was no usable WiFi in the room, and temperature control wasn't available there. We had to call the front desk to try to adjust it, but it didn't work. It stayed around 24°C all night, much too warm for our 8-month-old, and the hallway felt closer to 40°C. We paid €15 a night for a baby crib, but it was worn out and the mattress was dirty. The smoke detector flashed every few seconds, lighting up the whole room. Staff said it was normal, but it was disruptive and made it hard to sleep. The so-called king bed was two singles pushed together, with a mattress like cardboard. The shower head sprayed everywhere, and the drains were all detached, making it hard to stand in the shower.

The reception staff were polite and the location was convenient for walking around. That was the only good part of our stay. The room and bathroom were filthy, and the wardrobes smelled awful and looked like they had never been cleaned. The carpet was so dirty our socks turned black within minutes. Housekeeping only swapped the towels and did no real cleaning. The sheets seemed not to have been changed before we arrived, and they were replaced only after four days, when we complained. There wasn't an iron in our room, so we had to iron clothes in the hallway outside another guest's room, which was ridiculous and unprofessional. The hygiene was shocking. This was one of the worst places we've stayed, and we'd strongly warn other travelers to avoid it.
