Rome Experience Hostel

The staff are nice, and you get what you pay for since Roma isn’t cheap. The location is okay, with trams nearby and the metro close. It’s clean and low budget, and enough to recharge before another day exploring Rome. But if you need stable WiFi or comfortable beds, this isn’t the place for you. The upper bunk is narrow and hard to climb into. I almost fell out during the night, and some of the mattresses were old.

I contacted them beforehand about leaving our bags, and more than half the lockers were broken. Inside, some rooms didn't even have doors, the bathroom doors were see-through, and there were no working outlets in the rooms. It looked like the place hadn't been cleaned in months, and the staff were rude and unhelpful. The photos give a completely different impression. Women, please don't book this: the women-only room is beside the sketchy reception area, and its door can swing open without warning. During check-in, it opened while a woman was inside. Please take my advice and stay away.

We left ten minutes after seeing our room. There was no way we were going to sleep there. The beds felt unstable, there was no privacy, no outlets, no room locks, and everything looked dirty. Bathrooms didn't lock, had see-through peepholes, and had no towels or toilet paper. There were barely any lockers, perhaps one or two small ones that couldn't fit even a small carry-on. Service at reception felt sketchy, and the women's room is right beside the desk. This hostel was unsafe, uncomfortable, and disgusting. Don't go. It feels like the kind of place where bad things happen.

The cash deposit at checkout turned into a real mess. When we checked in, the man said he'd put our €5 key deposit in a box and return the same bill. At checkout it was missing, and there were only €10 notes. He said it wasn't his fault and wouldn't return our money. I even offered to take €2.50, so they'd only lose that much on the €10 they gave back, but he still refused. A real lack of hospitality. Scam. There were other problems too: no clean towels, broken shower doors, and a loose lock. Our roommates also complained there was no hot water. The reception woman was nice enough when we dropped off our bags.
