The Egyptian obelisk, elegant fountains and historic buildings make Piazza del Popolo a beautiful, imposing square. The twin churches at the entrance are striking, and the views toward the city and from the Pincio terrace above are magical. It feels lively without being cramped. You can wander around, sit by the fountains and take in all the history and architecture. A real Rome gem, and well worth visiting.
We paused here on our walk to enjoy the view and atmosphere. Piazza del Popolo is busy, but still a pleasant place to stop, take photos, or meet up before heading along one of the nearby famous streets. It’s a huge, elegant, well-laid-out square, with fountains, an obelisk in the middle and the famous twin churches. As one of the monumental entrances to historic Rome, it naturally feels lively and significant.
The view from the nearby Pincio terrace is fantastic, especially at sunset. Piazza del Popolo is a lovely spot to walk around, take a break and soak up Rome’s history, with an impressive Egyptian obelisk, beautiful architecture and a great atmosphere. 🇮🇹✨
Spend some time here watching people from one of the many benches, or wander over to the cafes and take in the atmosphere. The space has wonderful architecture, fountains and an iconic pair of twin churches on one side, with a triumphal arch as well. It’s worth visiting more than once, since the changing light brings out different parts of the square throughout the day.
This is one of my favourite piazzas in Rome. There’s plenty to look at, but you can also lounge on the steps, take in the surroundings, or go inside a church as I did at one corner of the Piazza. I remembered it well because it was the first piazza where I had a meal, over 25 years ago. Back then I stumbled through my phrasebook while the waiter urged me to speak Italian. This time, the waiter brought me an English menu. I loved being here and highly recommend a visit.
