Royal Palace Luxury Hotel

The rooms are spacious, very clean, and decorated to give an Old Town Rome feel. The staff are friendly and helpful, and we had good, honestly priced food. The rooftop restaurant gets busy from 1000 hrs in the morning until 2230 hrs at night, which in my experience shows the food and service are good. Go upstairs for the Pirates pasta, fresh pasta with shellfish, it was perfect. And enjoy the smell of fresh food cooking right below your seat. Why would you expect air conditioning in an outdoor rooftop restaurant? Someone complained that the seafood salad wasn't cooked properly, but you don't cook salad. Treat the staff like people and they'll bend over backwards to help you. Treat people the way you want to be treated. For location and price, it's perfect. The door is less than 160 yards from the foot of the Spanish Steps. I saw some other reviews before posting, and honestly don't agree with some of them. Overall, a good experience and a great location for a short week. There is no pool, so I'd call it a 3-star hotel rather than 4-star, but I'll definitely return.

Stay away. The pizza was okay, but everything else, including the pasta and fish salad, was mediocre at best. We had to send back the tomato sauce pasta because it was inedible. That's the first time we've returned a dish in Italy. The toilets are in a basement so stuffy you can barely breathe, and there were flies everywhere. The food took an hour to arrive and was overpriced. Worst restaurant ever.

Avoid this restaurant. After walking around the city all morning, we came in to find the AC wasn't even on. They sat us at a corner table, then we waited 10-15 minutes for the menu. The homemade pasta was alright, but they charged us 50€ for 3 aperol spritz. Service was slow, and when we were ready to pay they asked us to wait. The music was extra loud, so everyone was talking loudly. Service was disgraceful, except for one guy with glasses and a goat tee. I wouldn't recommend it at all, and I'm never coming back.

The only good thing we can say is that the hotel was well situated, close to many main attractions. We spent five nights there, booked through a trusted travel agent, and I foolishly didn't check the reviews first. That was my mistake. The bed was the worst part. It felt like it hadn't been replaced since the 70s. Steel coils stuck out of a very old-looking mattress with thin, stained lining. The bed linen was clean but worn and old. When I asked room service for a blanket, they brought an old brown coverlet with heavy stains. The faux leather furniture was peeling and damaged in places, including the bedhead. Of our five nights, we had no hot water for two. The large bathroom had two sinks but no cupboards or shelves. The shower cubicle was only 60cm-70cm sq. Toiletries were basic, with no body wash or hair conditioner, and the hairdryer was a wall-mounted blower. There were no ironing facilities or tea and coffee-making facilities. When we asked about the latter, they brought a kettle but nothing else. We requested coffee cups and were told the manager didn't allow it. The hotel also has a restaurant with tables and chairs lined up outside along the building. At the end of each night, staff stack them by dragging them across the cobblestones for an hour or so, sometimes longer. Closing the windows did little to muffle the scraping noise. Honestly, calling this place Royal, Palace, and Luxury is absurd and misleading, and so are the website photos. Anna Sydney, Australia
