Salotto Monti

We could walk to anything we wanted to see or do in Rome from this lovely location. The room was clean and spacious, check-in was easy, and the front desk staff were great. Breakfast was good, and there’s a nice rooftop terrace open at all hours. They also offer several free experiences, and you can join one of them. I’d readily recommend staying here.

Room A was clean, bright, quiet and modern. The staff were kind and accommodating throughout, and they did their best to help when things went wrong. Our problem was Room D, which we were charged the same rate for. We’d asked Salotto Monti to extend our stay by a day after our plans changed and we needed to reach Rome early. They said yes, but told us we’d have to switch rooms. I was traveling with my husband and our four-year-old, and I rarely write negative reviews, but this room was in such poor shape that other travelers should know. It was on a low floor that I believe was shared with other businesses or hostels. The room shook each time the old elevator doors shut. People yelled in the hallway and doors slammed at all hours. The tub leaked and couldn’t be used, tiles were falling off the walls and floor, and the grout was filthy in a way that couldn’t be cleaned. The walls and floors were scratched and damaged. The mattress was worse than the one in Room A, and the air conditioner was loud and erratic. It felt physically depressing, more like a youth hostel than the “luxury guesthouse” we’d been promised. We cut our stay short by two days and had to scramble to find somewhere else. I was grateful the staff understood and refunded us for the two unused nights. None of this was their fault; they really did try to make a bad situation better.

We keep coming back, and they still exceed our expectations every time. The hospitality is unmatched, and the staff always go above and beyond to make each visit feel special. This last stay was especially lovely because it was our honeymoon. We wouldn’t stay anywhere else. On our Rome trip, the team were friendly, helpful and attentive throughout. We had an early flight on the last day, and the take-away breakfast was a thoughtful touch that made the travel day easier. The hotel’s location is convenient and within easy walking distance of the main sights, so exploring was simple and stress-free. We loved our stay and would happily return.

The location is fantastic, within walking distance of the Trevi Fountain and Colosseum. The building is beautiful, but it’s very old, including the elevator, which only takes one party at a time. The hotel feels more like a B&B: reception closes at 11 PM, and the rooms share a floor with other businesses or apartments. The receptionist didn’t mention the roof terrace or free activities, so I didn’t get to do any of that. Service felt minimal, and people weren’t very friendly. The room was large, but the finish didn’t meet my expectations for the price. The bed wasn’t very comfortable, and the air conditioning was old. The bathroom was the biggest letdown. The floor looked like waterproof cement and was unevenly laid, with a sudden slope at one end that seemed dangerous. The shower is open right beside the toilet, so the whole floor gets soaked even if you’re careful. The wooden sink structure was starting to break down from all the water. The waterfall shower was weak, and some holes sprayed the wrong way. The tightly coiled hairdryer only works in the bathroom, keeps unplugging when you move it, and is uncomfortable and annoying to hold. It was left in a wire basket on the floor under the sink, where shower water collects, which seemed potentially dangerous. It wasn’t really bad, and the location is so good that staying a few days is fine. But the website calls it “luxury,” and it isn’t cheap, so I think it’d feel more worth the price if it cost less.
