Suite Opera Rooms

The room was small, though fine for one person with a small trolley bag. It's in an apartment two minutes from the hotel itself. The shower and toilet were clean, there was daily cleaning and fresh towels, and the room had a fridge and TV, which I didn't use.

The location was wonderful, and a few of the staff were great. That was about all I liked. The walls in the room were especially filthy, the bed was hard, and the door was difficult to lock. I wouldn't stay here again.

We paid just under $200 a night, and it wasn't worth that at all. The room was very dark and musty. It had been cleaned as well as it could be, I suppose, but we hated being in there and dealing with the smell. I was close to finding somewhere else and accepting the loss, but we were exhausted after an overnight flight and had timed tickets for the Colosseum. At least we only had to stay one night. They put us on the lowest level, in a room with bars on the windows overlooking a small, dark courtyard. The bathroom was down a full flight of stairs in the basement. It smelled awful and was a very strange space: huge, underground, with floorboards curling from the damp, a tiny capsule-like shower that didn't seem very clean because of its multi-jet wall, and a tiny separate toilet room. There was also a treadmill, a sofa, and a dehumidifier. We arrived around 1 pm and were told the room wasn't ready, so we left our luggage. When we came back around 3, someone walked us to the room. Only after he left did I discover the bathroom was downstairs. I went to the desk and asked to change rooms because I wake up in the night to use the restroom. He said he could have had another room cleaned if I'd told him sooner, but it was too late, as the other room wasn't ready and there was nobody there to clean it. No one had told us beforehand that the bathroom was down a flight of stairs into a basement. A few days before our visit, after reading some poor reviews, I emailed the hotel to ask for a decent room since it seemed from reviews that the room made all the difference. Nobody replied.

We ended up here because Hotel Sonya was overbooked, and we were glad we did. The staff were very friendly, the room was small but comfortable, and the shower was huge with great pressure. Our friends had mentioned their shower was small. Breakfast was fantastic, and there was a safe and fridge in the room with Coca-Cola, beer, and water at decent prices. We enjoyed our stay, and several places are within walking distance.
