The Code Hotel

The location was brilliant, and the staff were friendly and very helpful. But the bedrooms looked shabby, with peeling paint and a leather bed frame that was coming apart. There wasn't even a glass in the room, and no coffee machine, slippers, or robes like the pictures showed. For a four star hotel, breakfast was dismal and very basic, with only scrambled eggs and bacon as hot food. Loud banging from emergency roof repairs went on above us during our stay. With that worn interior, I certainly wouldn't call this a 4 star hotel.

The front desk staff were friendly, extremely helpful, and considerate, and did everything they could to make our stay good. I won't choose The Code again, though. We stayed there in August 2025, and it felt more like a 2 star place than a 4 star hotel. Nothing looked new. On the first night we had a small, dim room, with an AC unit just outside the patio doors. It kept me awake all night. The next morning I asked to move, and they promptly and cheerfully gave us a much larger, brighter room facing the street. Breakfast was basic, skimpy, and the same every day. Dinner at the restaurant, though, was quite decent and well served.

The rooms were lovely and the hotel itself is beautiful. I even had a night I won't forget, but the staff made sure I won't return. Sandra, the housekeeping manager, shouted through the hotel at full volume, and it felt like a flea market. I was late for the 11:30 AM checkout deadline and she yelled at me. She told a cleaner in Italian to come into the room with her until she was finished. That part didn't bother me, since I was packing and checking I hadn't left anything behind, but Sandra's behavior was disgusting. The staff were rude and aggressive with guests, shouting at them. I felt humiliated, and wouldn't recommend a visit. They can ruin your trip.

We could walk to Villa Boghese Park and the Spanish Steps, with plenty of places to eat and shop along the way. Great location, lovely hotel, and amazing staff!
