The cold and damp made it miserable. The room had no heat to keep us warm, and the air conditioning was dirty enough to leave our throats scratchy. We slept badly, and both of us got sick. One night, water dripped onto us from the damp window above the bed. We moved the bed, but the room stayed cold and humid. The blankets were poor quality and too small for the king-size mattress. We switched mattresses, then after our trip downtown the cleaner had changed things back and turned off the heat. When we complained, we were told it was cold because it was winter. It wasn't enough to keep us warm. Getting in was also a mess. We arrived after our flight in the rain and nobody was at the door, so we had to call the owner for instructions on how to open it and get inside. I had sent about five Facebook messages beforehand and got no reply. That information should have been sent before arrival. There were plenty of other problems in the room. The toilet was broken and the water flow was weak, although the water itself was warm. Several things were damaged, the wallpaper was ruined, paint was falling above the bed, and the curtains were broken, damp, and dirty. The photos looked like they'd been heavily photoshopped. There was no breakfast, though Booking had shown it as costing 3 euros. This felt dishonest and unprofessional.

Comfortable and simple.

Being in an attic with a terrace in central Rome was a real treat. The room felt unusual in a good way, modern and welcoming, and it was clean and roomy. The owner was especially kind and helpful. A few little things could be better, but I thought the place was excellent. The location was another big plus, right beside the Vatican walls and the Museums entrance. Ottaviano metro is about a five-minute walk away.
