For 185 euros a night, I’d choose somewhere else. We booked a room listed as “luxury” and stayed five days, but there was barely any space around the bed, and the view was of a service well with air-conditioning units droning away. The shower was absurdly narrow. We like a pleasant place to unwind after sightseeing, so this was a letdown. Breakfast at a nearby café had little choice, and the “American” coffee was awful. Maybe the other rooms are better.

Our room and bathroom were spotless, and the service was better than at the five-star hotel we’d stayed in before. Receptionist stephania was so helpful and made us feel welcome. There was some construction noise outside during the day, but we were away then, and nights were very quiet. A well-earned five stars.

The location is the main plus: restaurants and shops are all around, and the metro is close by. But the rooms were cramped, narrow, and dark. They moved us to a larger room, which still felt tiny, with nowhere comfortable to unpack our luggage, very little bathroom lighting, and an especially small shower. The elevators stop short of the actual floors, so you still have stairs to manage. With heavy or multiple bags, as we had, that was a major hassle. We paid over $150euro a night, and it wasn’t worth it. We came for two nights on our honeymoon last October and didn’t enjoy the stay. On our last night, the WiFi stopped working, and with no front desk or staff at the property overnight, nobody was available to help. We needed internet to plan the next day’s itinerary. We were told we’d get a refund for the outage, but it never came. They said my iban was incorrect and never managed to refund us. They could offer much more for that price.

Trevi fountain is just around the corner, and the area is especially good for shopping. There’s a bakery right below where I’d start the day, plus restaurants close by. The entrance took us a bit to spot, wedged between an eatery and a restaurant. Someone from a big city might find it easily. Once we got upstairs, our host greeted us warmly, spoke English, and shared a map with places for restaurants, coffee, and tiramisu. I’d recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Rome.
