There’s a wonderful modern art museum, plus other museums on the way to the Sistine Chapel. If you’re interested in the history, there are plenty of tours, for small or larger groups. When it’s busy, walking around on your own gives you a feel for the place in a couple of hours.

The church is breathtaking, and the art and sculptures are gorgeous. There’s so much history and culture here, and it really does live up to the hype. The place is well managed. I’d recommend going with a tour guide, since you can skip lines and get the information you need.

The basilica is amazing, and seeing the church proceedings was a wonderful sight. The Vatican itself is huge, and the museums are packed with artworks and sculptures that take a long time to see. It was completely crowded when we visited, so summer probably isn’t the best time to appreciate it. Still, a must-see when you’re in Rome.

You can see the main basilica for free, including the crypt with the old popes and St Peters tomb. Just expect big queues, with separate waits for going to the top of the basilica and for the museum. Both are worth seeing. The place is so vast, and the amount of priceless work and effort that went into it is hard to take in. I mean, it’s the Vatican. You can’t come to Rome and skip it.

Visited 2004 Stunning visit, and stunning wealth. Vatican City is a city-state surrounded by Rome, Italy, and serves as the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church. It’s home to the Pope and a wealth of iconic art and architecture. The Vatican Museums include ancient Roman sculptures such as the famous “Laocoön and His Sons,” as well as Renaissance frescoes in the Raphael Rooms and the Sistine Chapel, known for Michelangelo’s ceiling.
