We had a car, though there seemed to be local buses too, and the area is popular with walkers. Bolzano is only a few miles away, and the nearby village has useful basic shops. There's also a very good local restaurant just a short walk from the flat. Our visits to Oetzi and the Trauttmansdorf gardens were a success, helped along by having such a great place to stay. The hostess greeted us warmly at Unterkofler and handled our very shaky German, and perhaps shakier Italian, with ease. She showed us around the farm animals as well as the flat, including a very friendly Dutch cow. The flat is lovely, roomy enough for a larger family than ours, and has wonderful views. We found it comfortable, with a good shower and a particularly well-equipped kitchen.

The owners bring such a lovely atmosphere to the place, and they were so friendly. Best of all were the morning views. The apartment was furnished to a high standard, with everything from espresso cups to all kinds of dishes, pots, and pans. They also left us a bottle of local white wine and some delicious local eggs. Nature, plants, wildlife, and light make the place feel magical, with one-of-a-kind sunrises and sunsets and mountain trails all around. We had an excellent stay.
