B&B Maia House

The stairs are seriously steep, and the B&B feels quite dated. On arrival there was a mix-up: we were given a different room from the one we booked, and its bathroom was outside the room. That caused trouble, especially at night, since opening the doors makes so much noise that a trip to the bathroom wakes everyone. Breakfast is served at a nearby partner bar, outside the property. Mr Sebastiano was kind and helpful.

The room looked nothing like the photos, and the breakfast they included was only a supermarket cake and a carton of milk left on the table. When we pointed out that the sheets had stains and someone else's hair on them, the owner's response was appalling. We contacted Booking.com to ask for a refund, since we'd only wanted to stay one night and had booked for personal gain. He didn't acknowledge that, and instead spoke to us in an arrogant, domineering, aggressive way.

We stayed on the night of September 25th, and it was a total disappointment. The next morning, breakfast was supposed to come from an outside bar and be delivered to our room at 9:00 a.m. At 9:15, with no sign of it, we called the owner. He said his car had a problem and he couldn't get there quickly, but hadn't bothered to tell us. We'd been waiting since 8:00. He finally arrived at 10:00 with a meager, skimpy breakfast in two unhygienic paper bags, saying, "Sorry, but it's not my fault." A banal excuse and not the kind of thing a B&B owner should say. The property is mediocre and sits in a building with two very steep flights of stairs, so it's inaccessible for disabled guests. Inside, everything is very dated, especially the bathroom, which is outside the room and wasn't mentioned on the website. It has an ancient bathtub and a flimsy curtain that covers less than half of it. The ancient bidet leaks badly, leaving our feet wet almost every time. Despite the owner's praise of it, the mini fridge could barely fit a few bottles. Not recommended.

The whole place smelled of smoke as soon as we walked in. The beds were hard and uncomfortable, the bathrooms dirty, and the sink wouldn't drain properly. Humidity has made the ceiling crumble, and bits of it cover the top of the toilet. I definitely won't come back.
