Bellavista Hotel Meinhardt

The view from this hotel is magnificent, and the food is very good. My main gripe with dinner was the choice of main courses, while the side dishes seemed to be the same each time. It's described as family-friendly, but there aren't amenities geared toward children. The room was spacious, though it had no bidet, and the mattresses and pillows were really uncomfortable. The pool was cold, but there is a small, hot jacuzzi. The wellness center is small but pleasant, with herbal teas and dried fruit available. For a four-star hotel in South Tyrol, I expected a little more.

Dinner was a delight, with something different each day, carefully prepared by the chef. Breakfast was plentiful, with both sweet and savory options. The rooms were clean and smelled fresh, and the atmosphere throughout felt comfortable. The pool with its whirlpool and wellness program was a highlight, along with the view over Merano and the surrounding valleys. From the moment we arrived, we felt at ease. The staff were kind, helpful, and always smiling. Highly recommended!

We really enjoy staying at this hotel and can recommend it, with reservations. Service is excellent, and the location above Schenna is idyllic, right on the Waalweg hiking trail among apple orchards. The bus stop is about a 5-10 minute walk away. From there, buses go directly to Schenna and Verdins, and you can reach Merano with one transfer.

The staff were generally very good and helpful, including at checkout. Breakfast was quite good, though I would have liked more variety, and the service was good. The free parking and complimentary afternoon buffet were nice touches. The pool was great, with loungers indoors and outside. There are several saunas, all small, and the one at the front was only slightly warm. The dinner setup involves signing up in the morning and choosing a meal, and there's a salad bar. The buffet looks impressive, but portions are very small, and some dishes come out cold or lukewarm. The scampi was cold once, and the steak was lukewarm. The hotel is high in the mountains, and the narrow access road is difficult for pedestrians. Check-in felt impersonal. The rooms follow a design concept that didn't feel cozy, although mine was clean and the view was good. The shower soap ran out and wasn't replaced. I've stayed in over 1,000 hotels for work and holidays, and I found it hard to sleep here. The pillows were too soft, and maybe the altitude played a part. If you want peace and quiet, it has that. The clientele was mostly older. Would I return? Probably not, though that's a decision for each person. This is my subjective opinion, and I stand by it.
