Il Campetto Country House

The setting, with views over hills and cultivated fields, is beautiful, but the property feels neglected and the amenities are basic. There is a lot that could be improved. The farmhouse sits on the Marzocca hill near Senigallia, about a 15-minute drive along a road that is partly paved and partly semi-dirt. The rooms have older furniture, though it was clean, and the bathroom was clean too.

The apartment was spacious, and the natural surroundings made for a beautiful, atmospheric setting. It had no garden or terrace, though, and the furnishings felt dated. The beds weren't comfortable.

I left relieved to be heading home after staying here. There was no real welcome or explanation of how to find the room. It felt like a room from the post-war era, was poorly cleaned, and had none of the comforts you'd expect. There wasn't even a Siemens outlet. The service was below par. Breakfast wasn't a buffet. You had to ask for what was available. Because of personal needs, we politely asked if we could stay one more night, despite everything else. We never got an answer about whether it was confirmed or what the extra night would cost. I wouldn't stay again.

The garden is large, the rooms are spacious, dogs are allowed, and the dog-friendly beach is only about seven minutes away. In the evenings, though, the staff are almost never around, so it's better to sort out anything you might need before returning. There's no minibar in the room, and the furnishings look a little dated. Breakfast comes to your table rather than being set out as a traditional buffet. Mosquitoes made it impossible for us to sit in the garden in the evening, which was a shame.
