Hotel Del Borgo

The room and bathroom were huge, especially by European standards, and everything was very clean. Breakfasts were great. I liked that they made your coffee based on your nationality unless you asked for something else. The hosts were incredibly helpful: they explained the walk to the train station, gave us tips for hiking Cinque Terra, warned us that the Trenitalia ticket machines were often broken and what to tell the conductor if we saw one, and wrote out train directions to Florence on our last day. My wife and I stayed at Locanda Del Borgo in the Spring of 2010. We’d saved Amex points for years for our first Europe trip, and as I recall, this was the only place near Cinque Terra we could book with points. We took a train from Milan to Sestri, then a bus to the hotel. That was a little tricky, but a helpful bus driver got us through it. Later we learned we could have taken the regionale train from Sestri to a station within walking distance of the Inn. The one thing missing was self-serve laundry. There was a coin laundry in Sestri, though, and that worked fine. The hotel didn’t seem close to anything at first, but it was easy to get into Sestri for dinner by train and made a good base for the area. Looking at the posted price of $115/night, it seemed quite reasonable. We highly recommend it.

A cosy hotel with a great kitchen and lovely hosts who were helpful with tips. A good base for visiting the 5 Terre cities and the rest of the coast between Portofino and Portovenere.

A great spot for relaxing at the beach and visiting Cinque Terre. There’s a nice garden to unwind in during the day, and the staff are polite.

It was moderately ok.
