Country Lodge

We left after just an hour and a half. The room smelled awful, the towels stank, and the place was very dirty, including pubic hair in the shower. Someone had left shoes in a closet and the staff hadn't even removed them. The parking didn't feel safe either.

We booked four rooms for a 10-day cycling trip in September. My partner and I reserved as a couple but got the smallest room, while our single friends had much larger ones despite booking later. They moved us after we asked, though this shouldn't have been necessary. The hosts lived on the property but felt like ghosts. The internet was just a weak hotspot and didn't work in our building for more than 85% of the stay. We complained every day, yet they never dealt with it properly, apologized, or even talked with us about it. Staff were only around for limited hours, so anything else had to be handled by email, which was hard without Wi-Fi. Cyclists weren't well catered for. Breakfast was fixed at 8:30, too late for us, and our request for an earlier meal was granted only once. There was nowhere secure to leave bikes. Daily bed-making and fresh towels were appreciated, but they didn't make up for the inflexible service and lack of communication. For a cycling trip, I'd look elsewhere.

Reception was open for very limited hours, and communication could be tricky, though the staff were kind. The breakfast didn't appeal to us, and we didn't care for the coffee. Our room was clean but had odd decor. We stayed one night, and the hotel was a bit outside Siena's center. It felt overpriced, so we won't return.

Cristina arranged a plate and a glass of vino santo for me when I arrived at 10 pm, after I let them know ahead of time. She runs the place with help from several good people. Enrique greeted guests each morning with a big smile and a very good breakfast of fresh bread, cheese, ham, and sweets. Ceric took care of the garden, and a student welcomed guests in the afternoon until around 7 pm. Everyone did their best to help. The B&B is in the suburbs, about 500 meters from my temporary workplace, and easy to find on Google Maps. There's a large parking area in front, away from the road, plus a Coop and pizzeria 300 meters away. I stayed for 10 days and will be back soon. I had the largest room, with three windows and a desk.
