Il Panciolle

Our stay wasn’t satisfactory, and I wouldn’t recommend Il Panciolle. It’s a 2-star hotel with a restaurant, very close to Spoleto's Cathedral square, which is an excellent location. We were given the Mimosa room for two nights. It was surprisingly large for a hotel in that category, but that was the end of the good points. The room wasn’t very clean, the ceiling had large damp patches, and paint was falling onto the floor. The main light broke, and even though we reported it promptly, it wasn’t fixed. The room also wasn’t cleaned on our second day. To the hotel’s credit, they gave us a 12.5% discount at checkout for that shortcoming. Breakfast was basic, but served on a very nice terrace overlooking the hills around Spoleto.

Great service, and the terrace looks out over the old town with a breathtaking view. The menu has grilled food, homemade pasta, and a great wine list. I’d book ahead, and recommend coming for lunch or dinner.

We stumbled on the restaurant while walking during the day, then managed to find our way back for dinner. The atmosphere was charming and the wine list was surprisingly good. Christian was such a happy, engaging server, and very patient with our poor Italian and our rather obnoxious American request to have “everything together.” The gamberoni were the best prawns I’ve ever had, and the gnocchi with wild boar was so good we ordered another for the table. We had a loud, fun evening talking with other diners. The blonde waitress/host, whose name we didn’t get, gave us grappa at the end, and Roberta personally guided us to our taxi. The bill felt very reasonable for all the great food. 10/10 recommend! Grazie!

The room had a great view, and the staff were friendly and made us feel at home. It’s a nice little hotel in a central spot in Spoleto, very close to the Cathedral, with a restaurant downstairs in the basement. There’s no lift, and breakfast could be better.
