Hotel Flora

The lamb was the highlight of our meals: my herb-crusted rack-of-lamb was cooked perfectly, possibly the nicest piece of lamb I’ve ever had. My wife’s duck was excellent too, so there’s clearly a very good chef here. The restaurant itself felt quite utilitarian and was often empty during our four nights. It was livelier when a coach trip was staying, which made the meal more enjoyable. The hotel is very nice, with a lovely view from the room. Breakfast was nice and the staff were very nice. It’s a short walk from the ferry at Carciano and convenient for the Lungolago, the lakeside footpath. The railway station is not far either.

We loved our deluxe lake-view room, but I wouldn’t want a room facing the busy road beside this small hotel. It takes about 20 minutes to walk into Stresa along a pleasant promenade, so expect a walk for dinner if you aren’t eating at the hotel. The pool area is small and there aren’t enough sunbeds for everyone. Breakfast had plenty of choice and was very good. We also had one very good dinner at the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The food was tasty and nicely presented when we ate in the restaurant, and you should try the risotto, it was amazing. Breakfast was substantial too. The staff were polite and helpful, and even laughed along at my appalling Italian 🙃. Really enjoyed staying here. My only little gripe was not having a kettle in the room for coffee.

The walk into Stresa takes about 20 minutes, mostly along the lake with stunning views. The staff were fantastic, friendly and very helpful, and the food was great, especially breakfast.
