I booked a double room by phone two weeks before arriving on August 10, 2015, because of the price and central location. But when I showed up at 6:00 PM, the manager, now a man who’d taken over the business a few months earlier instead of Mrs. Silvana, said other bookings had overlapped and he had no room for us. He already knew about it at least that morning and could have told me. Instead, with it being high season and no advance warning, I had no time to find another option and was coming off a six-hour ferry ride. He offered us an apartment in Casa Santa, in the municipality of Erice, 4 km from the center. We went along with it before I realized public transport there was poor and it would take an hour to walk to Trapani center. The owner drove us to the apartment, which was nice, though not to my taste. Since it was so inconveniently far away and breakfast was only available at the B&B, I asked for a discount. He refused to negotiate and said the apartment was very nice. I’d booked a central room two weeks ahead so I could walk out easily, not for a nice-looking bedroom. He wouldn’t grant the request, and I had to pay right away. I rate the experience poorly because of the treatment and his failure to tell us about the double booking, which could have let me plan ahead. Instead, I had to accept the alternative with no time or energy to sort anything else out. I strongly advise against staying here because of the lack of availability and attention, and the manager’s focus on collecting payment at the expense of customer service.
