Bed & Breakfast Al Laghetto

The hosts are caring and loving, and the B&B is very clean. The proper shades make it possible to darken the room when you need to sleep during the day.

We spent a week here as a family and really enjoyed it. It’s a clean, simple place with reasonable prices, and the owner was so warm and welcoming. Breakfast is mostly sweet things. You’re only a few minutes from both Slovenia and central Trieste, so I’d recommend it.

The apartment in Basovizza feels roomier than the photos suggest, and its position works well for sightseeing or getting to the ELETTRA synchrotron. The old-fashioned decor has character without feeling run down. The bedrooms sit off a corridor, which gives some privacy if the guests aren’t familiar with each other. There’s a large table in the living room, with the kitchen beyond it. That kitchen is narrow and long, but has plenty of worktop for cooking. The bathroom is more modern, with a generous sink and shower that leave room to move. In the hall there’s a handy coat rack and umbrella stand, plus a small veranda you can reach from there. Double windows and insulated outer walls help keep out drafts and wind noise.

My phone booking hadn’t been removed from Booking.com, so I ended up stranded. They did tell me a few days ahead, though, and passed along the number for another hotel nearby. Everyone was polite and courteous despite not being able to host me. Well done.
