La Perla

The staff were very kind to us, and the hotel is good value for money. We had a spacious third-floor room with a great sea view from the balcony during our two weeks in mid-June. Everything worked, including the AC and TV, but the shower was too small and there was no fridge. Breakfast was simple but good: scrambled eggs, bacon, croissants, coffee, bread, and cereals. La Perla is a two-minute walk from the center, 10 minutes from the train station, 15 from the beach, and near Eurospin and Diperspesa. We would have given five stars if it weren't for the noise. The panoramic breakfast room is directly above on the fourth floor, and we heard chairs scraping every morning from 7 to 11. It's always open, so people went up late at night to smoke or chat, and doors tended to slam at any hour. We didn't sleep much. I'd avoid the third floor and hope the hotel finds a way to reduce the noise. Also, not many people in Calabria speak English, so it's best to practice your Italian! 🇮🇹

A low-cost place to stay in Tropea, with dated bathrooms that are extremely tiny. We could barely get into the shower in our room, and breakfast was very basic. On the plus side, it's close to the main tourist spots, the staff were lovely and helpful, and the upstairs breakfast room has a sea view.

It's clean and near the city center, so the hotel is okay, but there's a lot that isn't good. The rooms have been renovated, though the furniture is old, and the bed was only okay to sleep in. The bathroom was the worst part, very small. I'm 1.9 m and 100 kg, so my head touched the shower, which was old and like one in a camping place; my shoulder hit the soap stand, and I had to step out of the shower cabin to reach my legs. Breakfast wasn't included and cost too much to add, so I skipped it. If you have another option, take it. Otherwise, it's okay for a night or two.

Pick it for the location and the view of Stromboli. It's a city hotel about five minutes from town, and the location is great. The place is a little worn but very clean, with fresh towels every day. Breakfast was VERY boring. I'd recommend getting morning coffee at Bar Cornetteria nearby.
