Tropea Boutique Hotel

The room was clean and roomy by European standards, and the views and food were stupendous. A fantastic location, too. The staff were wonderful, especially Mimma.

The breakfast was very good, and the view made it even better. Great location, excellent views, and really friendly staff, especially Mima.

We booked two balcony rooms for a beach holiday after seeing the hotel photos, but the rooms were so far below standard that we left after just one night. My friend and I had expected views of the beach and terrace. From our room, the only view was through an old wooden door with glass, onto a small balcony overlooking the town and sea. The bathroom was awful. The toilet seat was loose, the cistern took 15 minutes to refill noisily, and the leaking shower was so cramped I could barely lift my arms to reach the soap dispenser. The blankets and cushions were so dusty that my friend got asthma. There were no amenities, not even a bedroom bin, so I had to carry a dripping teabag into the bathroom to throw it out. When I asked for a bin, I was handed a plastic bag. One receptionist spoke very little English and seemed surprised that we arrived with mid-sized suitcases. We had to haul them up endless stairs because there’s no elevator. The place felt old, dusty, and tired, as if the owner had neglected it or wasn’t interested in maintaining it. We moved to a beautiful resort a few minutes away, and it cost less than the Tropea Boutique hotel. Naturally, we weren’t refunded for the money we’d paid. Be warned about the false advertising.

Breakfast on the rooftop had a beautiful view and a delicious spread: eggs and bacon, ham, cheese, sausage, yoghurt, fruit, croissants, cakes, juices, and more. The hotel itself was nice and clean, and the staff were genuinely kind and helpful. Several rooms open onto the terrace, with lovely views of the sea and Stromboli volcano. The downside is poor soundproofing, so you hear a lot from the hallway and other rooms.
