Urbino is a wonderfully preserved medieval town and an underrated gem. It doesn't make many travelers' plans, partly because there's no direct train, which also means it doesn't have many tourists. The apartment was a great base for experiencing its magic, with frescoes, antique furniture, modern amenities, and lots of Italian books, artwork, and artefacts. It's in a palace compound beside the Duke’s Palace and Duomo, and also has access to a garden, which I recommend visiting. For a great view of the palace and city, walk uphill for 10 minutes from the center to Parco della Resistenza. We tried Ristorante Pizzeria Locanda Del Blasone, Il Cortegiano Ristorante, and La Trattoria del Leone' di Lucarini Mauro. All were good, though we liked the third best. We wanted to try Portanova and Ristorante Antica Osteria Da La Stella too, but they were closed during our visit. There's no public transport within the city walls. To get to the apartment from Pesaro, take an Adriabus (green line) from Pesaro train station to Urbino Park Santa Lucia, then a 3M bus to Piazza Della Repubblica in the city center. From the apartment, several Adriabus services leave from Bivio Galassini for Park Santa Lucia. That helps if you're carrying heavy luggage.

The views of the garden and greenery around Urbino feel almost close enough to touch. The rooms have a lot of charm, with carefully chosen furniture and colors, and a warmth that seems to come from their long history and the many lives lived there. They're in an ancient building right in the heart of Urbino, just steps from Federico's palace.

It's right in the center, which makes it ideal for visiting Urbino. This is a truly prestigious residence, renovated with real skill and taste. It has the comforts of a modern home, alongside a priceless charm that I've rarely come across in all my travels.

A beautiful, historic residence right in the heart of Urbino.
