After booking a hotel in Rome that had great reviews and turned out awful, I wasn’t expecting much. Ai Cherubini was a lovely surprise. It’s quaint, beautifully decorated, on a quiet street, and still close to the busy areas. The rooms and reception have an old time feel, but everything worked as it should. Our room was spacious, quiet, nicely lit, and had gorgeous decor, plus a comfortable bed and pillows. The only small issue was that the two beds pushed together to make a queen kept sliding apart. The robes were good quality, and they’d laid out delicious little biscuits on an adorable Italian dining table. I also appreciated the mini fridge. The staff were great, helped me with the waterbus, and housekeeping did a very good job. I’ve stayed in both good and bad hotels with glowing reviews, and this one’s reviews felt true. Thanks for a fantastic stay.

We had a ground floor room right behind reception, with bars on the windows looking out onto an overgrown courtyard full of trash that smelled awful. So much for a room with a view. The bathroom was a mess. Its door wouldn’t stay shut and fell open into the bedroom, so there was no privacy. We ended up tying the hairdryer cord to the handle to hold it mostly closed. The shower was moldy and leaking, and somehow water seeped through the walls into the bedroom, leaving a big puddle on the floor after every shower. We had to mop it up with our towels. The rest of the place looked just as neglected, with dated fixtures, peeling fabric wallpaper, skirting boards that didn’t fit, and mold in the corners. It felt like every corner had been cut. Staff barely spoke English. One man was useless and downright rude, shrugging and saying his boss would be back in 4 days. Someone else just said, 'oh bene' (oh, well). This hotel was horrendous. Don’t waste your money or ruin your trip by staying here.

The outside of this antique hotel doesn’t prepare you for how much character it has inside. Our room was really large, and they’d already set up afternoon tea when we arrived. The staff were very friendly. Just remember to have a little cash handy, since the $8 city tax has to be paid in cash. I’d definitely come back and highly recommend it.

We could easily walk from the hotel to San Marco, Gran Canale, Rialto Bridge, and the main central area. The hotel has a unique style, and the bathroom was clean and big. Our double deluxe room was for two adults and a child, and it was spacious enough and very clean. The staff were lovely and friendly. The one drawback was that my son's bed wasn’t very comfortable. I’d recommend staying here.

From the hotel, restaurants for breakfast are just around the corner, Rialto Bridge and San Marco Square are a 10 minute walk, and the water taxi stop is 2 minutes away. We really enjoyed our stay and can recommend the place. Our room on the second floor was spacious, nicely decorated, and very clean. There’s no elevator. The man at reception was friendly and helpful, and the table in the room was set with beautiful cups and plates. Coffee, tea, and cookies were topped up daily. A special thank you to the cleaning lady, who gave the room a thorough clean when I wasn’t feeling well.
