The location is fantastic, but it didn’t come close to making up for what was the worst stay I’ve had. We booked for four people at Hotel Commercio & Pellegrino. On arrival, the receptionist walked us to another building about 50-60 meters away, opened the door, and told us to go up to the third floor. That part was fine. The apartment itself was comfortable, but the staircase was filthy, like a dumping ground, and the whole building smelled terrible for all three days. The room badly needed maintenance and repainting. The walls were dirty and stained, possibly with dead mosquitoes left there since summer, even though we stayed at the end of November. The place was so dirty you couldn’t walk barefoot. The living room sofa was broken and covered in stains that seemed impossible to remove, as I’d also read in reviews from previous months. We even found a sock, probably left by an earlier guest, possibly quite a while ago. Sleep was the biggest problem after cleanliness. The beds and mattresses should be thrown out. The mattresses were around 9-10 cm thick, and it was impossible to rest. Every morning we woke up stiff and sore, no exaggeration. The blankets were shocking, smelled awful, and were like nothing I’d seen in many years. Honestly, I’d suggest burning them instead of giving them to guests. I didn’t complain at reception because there were so many issues that they obviously couldn’t be fixed right away. I’d only have gone to ask for a refund and stay elsewhere, but that’s not the point of a vacation. You go away to enjoy yourself. The owner could improve the place in about ten days by replacing the furniture and linens, maintaining the staircase, and renovating the apartment. The great location wasn’t enough to leave us with a good impression.

We slept better here than at home. The apartment was quiet and dark at night, with good wifi, great air conditioning, a modern bathroom, and a kitchen that had everything we needed. The service was perfect, too. Staff brought my bags upstairs, which was a big help, and gave us wonderful restaurant and transport recommendations. We stayed for 3 nights in a top-floor apartment, so I got my steps in. The rooms and location were great, close to everything, and I really enjoyed our stay.

After the crowds and bustle, it was nice to come back to somewhere that felt safe and quiet. There are lots of good restaurants and shops nearby, and the vaporetto stop is an easy walk away. The hotel is on a small street right in the tourist area, conveniently close to Piazza San Marco. Our room was modest but clean, and breakfast was good and included in the room price.

The location is close to San Marco without being caught up in the crush. A clerk suggested a great restaurant I never would have found by myself. The room was attractive and comfortable, with a nice modern bathroom. Staff were terrific and helpful, and spoke English. Breakfast had an excellent variety.

The room was very, very clean, and breakfast was really nice. The location worked well for San Marco and other amenities, and the stay was OK overall. The bedding could have been better. The coffee and tea setup was useless. It should have had a kettle and tea bags, and the coffee and tea should have tasted like they were supposed to. Drinking from a polystyrene cup was a big no-no. There weren’t enough electrical sockets either, so we had to charge our phones in the bathroom.
