The hotel is beautiful, with spacious modern suites reached by a luxurious staircase. The rooms are lovely and the location is great. But a hotel aiming for a five-star reputation needs to put guest comfort and service first. We arrived two hours before check-in, planning to leave our bags and go sightseeing until the rooms were ready at 3pm. The staff told us the rooms were already available, but checking in early would cost an extra 30 Euros. Later, we enjoyed the coffee pods in the suite and asked the office for a couple more. They said pods were only supplied at the start of the stay, and we could go buy our own. At nearly 650 euros a night, letting guests into rooms that are already ready a couple of hours early, or sending up a dollar’s worth of coffee pods, seem like easy, low-cost ways to offer better service. Those small gestures are what make guests feel valued and distinguish a five-star hotel from one that only presents itself that way.

Room 22 worked out to be one of our best hotel choices in Venice. It had two bedrooms and two bathrooms, one en-suite and another down the hall. From the bathroom with the bathtub, you could step out onto a balcony and look over the canal, where gondolas were passing because it’s near the Grand Canal. We loved the view. The one change we’d make is to book a room with a balcony you can sit on, perhaps Room 21. Taking the private water taxi to and from the airport for 170EUR each way made the trip feel even more special. The hotel has its own dock, so arriving felt stylish and good value. Giulia at reception and Emma on chat were both kind and welcoming. We’d definitely recommend the place.

We used the apartment kitchen to heat up leftovers, which was handy with kids who say they’re hungry an hour after leaving food, and to keep fresh fruit or local market produce like zucchini. The cantaloupe was exceptional. The kitchen was well equipped, with a Lavazza machine and coffee pods supplied daily, plus a small kit with a sponge, a little dish soap, and a wiping cloth. The long dining table gave all six of us room to eat together. We stayed four nights in a top-floor apartment that suited our family well. It had three bedrooms and a sofa bed in the living room. Giulia and Emma, the two young women helping with check-in downstairs, were friendly and very helpful. Giulia arranged a water taxi for our last day, which picked us up at the Be Mate dock and took us to the train station. So convenient. The hotel apartment is well placed for restaurants and exploring, and not far from the Rialto bridge.

The team was professional and helpful, and gave us great suggestions. Our room was spacious and clean. Be Mate is centrally located, about a five-minute walk from San Marco square, with a balcony looking over the canals.

The welcome was personal, and getting here by boat made the whole stay a great experience. There’s so much space for such a central place. Highly recommend.
