Guesthouse Cà dell'Angelo

The room was quite good, especially the canal view, and the bed was okay. There were some mosquitoes around, perhaps because it was summer, and the location right in the city center was excellent. The service was the frustrating part. The man wasn't very nice, and there always seemed to be something to debate about what we asked for. For instance, when we requested shower soap, he said it was with the cleaner. On the first day, bread was set out around 6 and ready by 7:30 or 8. On the second, we had to wait until 7, and they gave us only bread. When we asked for a plate, they said we had used a lot already and should use a tissue to prepare the bread, though I hadn't used a plate yet.

Breakfast was good, and the rooms were good too. The location is great, near Piazza San Marco and nice shops like Gucci and Louis Vuitton. There is mold in the bathroom, apparently because people don't turn on the fan when showering. The owners said work needs to be done.

The rooms were spacious and impeccably clean, with great air conditioning, and the hotel was within walking distance of major attractions. There are a lot of stairs to get to the rooms, which felt exhausting, though that may just have been our travel fatigue. Breakfast was decent for a bed-and-breakfast, with a few choices, but the warm milk with cereal put me off. Maybe I'm just used to something different in the US. Service detracted from an otherwise satisfactory stay: the woman in charge seemed annoyed by questions, contrary to what other reviews had led me to expect. She also unexpectedly asked for $15 in cash on top of the charges we anticipated. It was a small amount, but it felt questionable.

Save your money and stay somewhere else. Our room was literally too low to stand up in, mosquitoes were getting inside somehow, and the air conditioning barely worked. There was no lift, just stairs, including a tiny spiral staircase that was too small for an average suitcase. It's a shame we paid full price for what felt like half a room.
