Hotel Al Vagon

We spent 3 days and 2 nights here before our cruise. I’d researched quite a bit for an old-world Venetian feel, and this place delivered. The service was outstanding. One employee even carried a bag up two flights for us, despite my husband and me having three pieces of luggage each. There’s no elevator, which is very typical of Venice buildings unless you book a chain or similar hotel. The location worked perfectly for us, with everything we wanted nearby as soon as we stepped outside. There was even a market where I picked up basics a few times, like water bottles and a hairbrush, plus some authentic Italian snacks to take home.

The owners were welcoming and knew the area well. Our room was cleaned every day, had air conditioning, and came with a smart TV. The windows opened right over a canal. Hotel Al Vagon feels like a quaint B&B, and its central spot put famous sights within about a mile. St. Mark’s Square was roughly a seven-minute walk. We had coffee and pastries each morning at the lovely cafe right outside. Shops, vendors, and restaurants were right on the doorstep too. I’d happily stay at Hotel Al Vagon again.

The room was cleaned each day, and the hotel has a charming, old Venetian look, with ornate furniture, patterned walls, and a nostalgic feel. It’s very central, but there was no mini fridge. Four nights came to around €690, which felt expensive for the comfort on offer. Nice place, just overpriced.

None of my four international credit cards worked here, even though I’d used them all over Italy for hotels and trains. I tried to get in touch but heard nothing back. Since they wouldn’t accept my cards, I cancelled the reservation. The place didn’t feel trustworthy.
