Hotel Belle Epoque

The staff were so helpful and kind. I had to leave early, and they even made me some food. The location is ideal and breakfast was just fine. The rooms are a bit shabby, but that’s reflected in the price. It’s a 3 star hotel, not the ritz.

The courteous staff and the mini pain au chocolat at breakfast were the only good parts of our stay. We paid a lot because it was Carnival weekend, but the place felt run down, dirty, and smelly. Maybe it used to be a “Belle Epoque” hotel. The website photos seemed fake or at least very selectively chosen. Our room was very old, the carpet was stained, and there was a mildew smell. Black Mould covered part of the bathroom ceiling, the shower was falling apart, and we couldn’t even get hot water.

The best part is the location: it’s about a five-minute walk from the train station on the main island. The price was reasonable, and I’d recommend it to people traveling on a budget. The service was nice, and breakfast had a good variety of tasty food to start the day. Our room had typical venetian furniture, perhaps a little old, as were the walls and some other equipment. Everything worked, but there were stains on the carpet and cut cables in the bathroom. We also couldn’t find a “do not disturb sign.”

The hotel is within walking distance of the train station, but the reception experience left a bitter taste after an otherwise wonderful Venice trip. At check-in, a girl said the tax due at checkout was 9 Euro. At checkout, a rude Italian man on the morning shift, 23 Oct 2024, said it was 14 euro. We only had 10, and they wouldn’t accept card, so we had to rush to change money at another nearby hotel with our train leaving in 10 minutes. It was 7.30am and most shops were closed. My husband went to the hotel he recommended for exchanging money, while I said I’d start walking toward the station and asked the man to tell my husband. My husband's luggage was still there, but the man said he’d call the Police if I left. Seriously, is that how you treat guests? He was tall with black/brown hair. Please don’t keep people like him who will ruin your business.
