Hotel Torino Barocca Dependance

The location was the best part for me. I could walk to all the main sights, and there were lots of restaurants and cafes close by. Check-in and checkout were smooth, the room was tidy, and room service made the bed and changed towels every day. Breakfast was pretty good: sweet pastries, with scrambled eggs and bacon available if you ask, plus coffee, juice, yogurt, and fruit on request. I’d been skeptical after seeing the Google reviews the day before checking in, so the first thing I did was check the room for bedbugs. I didn’t find any. The room was nicely decorated, though the shower was quite small and someone taller might need to crouch. The walls aren’t soundproof. We could hear nearby toilets flushing and people talking in the hall, but as a heavy sleeper that didn’t bother me much. What did wake me was the warmth in the room. I opened the windows at night, since the thermostat wouldn’t go below 16 degrees Celsius, which felt too warm for me to sleep.

I’d read the other reviews mentioning bedbug problems, but didn’t run into any myself, so I assume they may have called an exterminator. The walls are a bit thin, though that wasn’t an issue for me, and the shower worked. The bed was soft, breakfast was good enough, and the internet was great. The location was perfect, and since it was one of the cheaper options in the area, I was pleasantly surprised.

Our first night, we woke up with bite marks and spotted several bed bugs crawling around. When we went downstairs to tell the staff, they suggested mosquitoes and only accepted there was a problem after we brought one down. They wouldn’t give us a refund or a different room. I had to book emergency flights home and never got any compensation. Stay here if bed bugs and rude management are what you’re after.

The place is beautiful and in a nice location, though it was hard to find. The bed was comfortable, with extra pillows and blankets, and the bathroom was nice. But the walls are so thin there’s no privacy. I could hear every step in another room, as well as unpleasant noises from the neighbours. It ruined my whole holiday. It felt like booking a room of your own but having to share it with people from three other rooms. Breakfast was just buns, croissants, jam, and tea or coffee, but at least it was something. In general it was okay, just no privacy.
