The view of the Arsenale building gave this place a lot of character. It’s an old-fashioned apartment in a quiet part of the city center, with the facilities you need and a well-equipped kitchen. It made a comfortable base for exploring Venice and getting a feel for a traditional Italian apartment.

They advertise an elevator, but it’s really only for luggage, and even then it’s hard to use. I wouldn’t get in it for safety reasons. We were also short on toilet paper and garbage bags. We had our four kids with us and asked if we could leave our luggage for a few hours before check-in, but they wouldn’t accommodate us. The people we dealt with didn’t seem helpful or considerate, which was disappointing given the very high rating I’d expected more hospitality from. For the same money, there are better places in Venice.

The rooms looked out over an open area towards the canal, which was lovely. We stayed three nights with family, and the apartment’s first floor was easy to reach from the ferry. There was an elevator for our luggage, plus a supermarket and local places to eat nearby.

Restaurants are plentiful within a five-minute walk, but the bathroom had a horrible smell that wouldn’t go away. The stay was okay otherwise. Having to pay the city tax in cash at check-in was frustrating, especially now that so many things are cashless.

The only real drawback was hearing the neighbors walking around. The apartment is in a good spot, very close to Arsenal station, with a direct boat connection to the main parking garages.
