Residenza Laguna

The hot water was a matter of luck, and the management couldn’t handle guests screaming for hours after midnight. They didn’t even try to apologize to the rest of us. Service was the worst I’ve experienced. Breakfast was decent, but for an early checkout we were left with leftovers from previous days unless we asked for something to be made. Then we were told they wouldn’t give us a bag to take it in, so we’d have to bring our own. I’ve never had this much trouble getting a takeaway breakfast.

The location is good, but for what we paid this wasn’t worth the money, even allowing for Venice prices. The shower was falling apart, towel rails came off, and the heating didn’t work. It was very cold, and the freestanding heater they gave us was only just adequate. The third bed had a very lumpy, sloping mattress and was uncomfortable. Cleaning seemed okay at first, but the carpets, beams, walls, and ledges were dusty if you looked closely. I’d use this place only as a last resort.

We paid almost 160 euros and still ended up with flickering lights, a broken toilet flush with no water, and dirty dishes. Staff didn’t seem to take responsibility, and nobody answered the phones, so we never felt comfortable there. On our first trip to Venice, my mother and I were with my two-year-old daughter, and this hotel was the reason we had such a bad time. Because of a bathroom problem in our booked room, staff moved us to an apartment 500 metres away. We reported the lights and flush issues before leaving to sightsee, but nothing had been fixed when we got back that night. I had to carry my sleepy child back to the hotel because no one picked up. They then said someone would come fix it, though they already knew about the problem. The attached photo shows the flush wasn’t working at all.

We couldn’t shower because the water was so cold, and it was minus four outside. The bathroom was the warmest spot in the room. Nobody was there to check us in, and calling wasn’t useful because everything was in Italian. I even had to open the door for the woman doing the cleaning and make breakfast. The kitchen was a toaster sitting on a chair, and the manager set the aircon but it didn’t work, and we weren’t allowed to touch it. There was no food after nine. We’d just spent 105 euros the previous night on a newly renovated Airbnb near San Marco, with an espresso machine and coffee. This place cost 160 euros a night. We visited Italy for three weeks, and this property should be closed. Zero rating for Residenza Laguna. They give booking sites false information. See Tripadvisor for the other complaints.
