The apartment was newly renovated, but ours was the smallest one, on the second floor with no elevator. Two beds were tucked up in the attic, reached by a steep, narrow staircase. The kitchen had a microwave and dishwasher, but no washing machine. There was hardly anywhere comfortable to sit: four hard barstools and one old, sagging beanbag. We took turns using the beanbag, uncomfortable as it was, because it beat perching on a stool. Bedroom storage amounted to eight coat hangers on two bare rails. We had to leave the bathroom light on all night so we wouldn’t fall into the unguarded opening by the steep stairs. With small children, that would be extremely dangerous. This was easily the MOST UNCOMFORTABLE apartment I’ve ever stayed in!
