Hotel San Zulian

The location is very close to the main attractions, but I wouldn't count on much beyond that. There was no trash can in the room apart from the bathroom, and no water heater. When I asked at the front desk about hot water, they said they couldn't help. We had a fifth-floor room, and in the summer heat of 35-40°C it was like a sauna. The AC was already set to 16°C when I arrived, but after about 20 minutes I was sweltering. At night there was at least a breeze through the window, but mosquitoes meant we couldn't leave it open. The clothes hangers were kept in a stuffy old closet, apparently because they were worried they might be taken. A truly miserable night.

I left my Gucci sunglasses, worth 300€, in my backpack in the hotel's “luggage deposit.” My bag was there for only five minutes, in what turned out to be an unattended corner of a corridor, far from reception and without cameras or supervision. When I came back, the glasses were gone. The receptionist was dismissive and tried to blame me, saying I'd lost them before I arrived, which wasn't true. They then said they couldn't do anything. There was no offer to help, no camera check, and no manager available. Only after I went to the police and returned with a report did they say a technician might check the cameras, days later. This felt unsafe and unprofessional, with no responsibility taken for guests' belongings. If you care about your things and being treated with basic respect, avoid this hotel.

We were put on the third floor without anyone checking whether we were willing to take the stairs, and there's no elevator up there. The toilet bin still had the previous guests' rubbish in it. Breakfast was okay, and reception is open 24 hours. You can leave your luggage in a hallway before check-in.

The location was great, but our room was tiny and unusual. My wife and I had booked a double and were given twin beds. For that price, I'd look somewhere else if you want a better room.
