We had a fabulous weekend in venice, and this was good enough as a base for exploring, even if it’s definitely not the Ritz. We’d worried about staying here after all the bad reviews. The bed was comfortable and cleaned every day. The curtains don’t close, but there are shutters that do. There are gaps in the shower curtain, but the water was hot. Staff were pleasant enough. I’d recommend the jazz bar down the road.

The room was clean, quiet, and large, with plenty of cupboard space, a fridge, a comfortable bed, and good blackout blinds. Staff were generally okay, depending on who you spoke to. Walking to the train station took 12 minutes, which was handy. Getting our bags to and from the top floor was difficult. The lift was so noisy and slow it felt as if it wasn’t moving, and taking the stairs was faster. The room itself was very basic: a fridge, minimal toiletries, and two single-use plastic cups in the bathroom. A kettle would have been especially welcome in cooler months, along with at least reusable ceramic cups for tea or coffee. The shower didn’t close properly, as if a glass panel were missing, and water spilled across the floor. Breakfast was passable, very basic but with lots of cereal choices. We’ve stayed in three-star hotels around Europe over the last few weeks, and this was by far the most disappointing. We wouldn’t return unless the hotel improved the visitor experience.

The location was a strong point, about 15 minutes on foot from the train station and right beside a waterbus stop. You could hear the stop squeak through the night, though. We managed to make the best of our week, but the place felt more like a two-star hotel. Our small room was cramped with a bed, wardrobe, desk, and mini fridge, so two people couldn’t move around comfortably. The bed was two singles pushed together, firm but reasonably comfortable, and housekeeping kept the room clean. The shower didn’t work properly. It looked as if a replacement had been installed next to the broken one, in an awkward position where the faucet hit your knees and shins if you moved. It seemed designed for someone much shorter, and was a letdown after they’d promised a rainfall shower. The first few days were pleasant enough. Front desk staff were polite, and the basic breakfast was enough to start the day. The last few days soured things: a large group of loud, inconsiderate Italian teenagers on our floor played music, slammed doors, and banged on one another’s doors all night. We complained several times, but nothing changed. We asked to move rooms and offered to pay extra, but were told it wasn’t possible, even though plenty of rooms were empty. On our last two mornings, breakfast had run out of all the bread and pastries, disappointing when we’d paid for it.

I was wary after reading so many bad reviews, but the stay turned out better than expected. The room was basic, with a nice bathroom and comfortable bed, and it was cleaned daily. It worked well as a place to return to after each day out. Breakfast was pleasant, with pastries and cereal. The main sights, including St Marks Square, are about a 30-minute walk away. The main drawback was that hot water depended on what time of day you showered.

The location was brilliant for us, just outside the busy city but still within walking distance of lots to see and do. There’s a lovely cafe next door for snacks, alcohol, sandwiches, and soft drinks. A local supermarket called Conad is a reasonably priced 5-10 minute walk away, with great views along the way. The boat stop right outside gets quite full at peak times. Only one line stops at tre archy, 5.1 and 5.2 in opposite directions, but other lines and the airport transfer are available at the next stop, a short walk away. You can also take the boat to that next stop to connect. If you don’t fancy the boat, the train and bus stations are a short walk. There’s a nearby town centre with shops, gondola rides, places to eat, and iconic bridges. I’m a single mum travelling with my 5yr old son, and all the bad reviews had me dreading the break. Instead, I loved staying here. The hotel shows its history and culture, and it felt very safe for the two of us, with easy access to amenities. Our room was dated but quirky, cosy, and warm, with two single beds in separate sleeping areas and a small fridge we used for sandwiches and drinks. It was cleaned daily, with fresh towels every day: big towels, face towels, hand drying towels, and a floor mat. If we were still in the room when the cleaners came, they returned later when we were out. The shower was always hot. Breakfast was a basic continental spread, but enough to get us going: eggs, cheese, ham, cereal, bread, croissants, yogurt, coffee, cake, and juice, served from 7-10. All the staff were friendly and helpful, sharing local knowledge and helping with boats and trips. They went above and beyond, and I don’t think the hotel gets enough credit. It’s been a great trip for my son and me, and we’d definitely stay again. Tre archy deserves more credit for their fantastic work. Thank you so much for everything, we’ll be back.
