Unahotels Ala Venezia - Adults Only

We chose it for a short stay before our cruise from Fusina, and the walk to St Mark’s was so easy. The water taxi pulled up right by the check-in desk, which was a pleasant surprise and meant we didn’t need to haul our bags over a bridge or up stairs. It’s clean and simple, with a small canal view, a tiny room and barely any storage, as expected. The price and location were great, and the front desk helped us find a private water taxi for departure. I’d recommend it for a brief visit.

We spent seven weeks traveling around Europe, and this was easily our worst hotel stay. We arrived late after a full day on the train, then had to drag our luggage about a mile over several staircases because no one had told us how to get there. Only later did we learn there was a much closer water taxi stop. The room was cramped and dark, with its only window facing a wall, nothing like the photos. There was no shampoo, conditioner, body lotion or coffee. The AC did work well, which was one small help. The noise started at 7:30 every morning and went on until midday. It was loud banging and drilling, and earplugs and pillows did nothing. We were exhausted and irritable the next day. When we complained, one receptionist said he couldn't hear anything; another said there was construction next door and other guests had complained too, but nothing could be done. They could at least have lowered the price for affected guests. Cleaning staff also dragged chairs and vacuumed above us and outside our door, and we could hear everything. The reception staff gave us cold stares and never made us feel welcome. This was our first visit to Venice, and the hotel left us with such a bad impression of the city and the people that we don't plan to return.

The buffet breakfast was excellent, the rooms were pleasant, and the beds were really comfortable. Staff were generally accommodating too. But there was very loud construction in the building right beside our room every workday of our stay. The hammer drilling made it hard to get the afternoon naps we needed.

The location was great, just a short walk to the ferry that went straight to the airport, with plenty of good restaurants and sights nearby. We stayed two nights in the Antonia suit, and the suit itself was amazing. Breakfast was included and really good. They even carried our suitcases up to the top floor. I wasn't sure if tipping was expected, but we did, so sorry if that wasn't necessary 😅 We also left a time capsule for the next couples staying there to find, hoping they'd be as happy as we were 🥰
