Hotel Lahnerhof

There are lots of parking spaces, but the lot fills up around dinner because people from outside the hotel can dine there too. Book a table ahead if you want to be sure of getting one. The rooms are very spacious and all look out over the mountains, though you can hear noise from the hallway and other rooms. The setting is quiet and the views are great. Breakfast could use more choices. The spa is small and would feel crowded if all the guests came at once; the jacuzzi fits about six adults, and there are two saunas and a relaxation area. We were disappointed that the outdoor pool wasn’t really heated, so it can be cold in low season, and that it closes at 7 pm. We’d hoped to relax there after our hikes. There’s also a kids’ area with some games, and electric bikes are available to rent for €35 a day.

The staff were really friendly, and the hotel has lovely mountain views. There’s a sauna and a swimming pool, plus tasty breakfasts and e-bike rentals.

The location is beautiful, and the small heated outdoor pool is lovely. Beyond that, I found quite a lot disappointing. The rooms didn’t feel remotely like what I’d expect from a four-star hotel. The wellness area has two saunas and is just OK, with a risk of overcrowding even when the hotel isn’t full. Breakfast was worse than I’ve had at some fairly cheap roadside B&Bs. Dinner was tasty and offered variety, but didn’t match the standard I’d expect at this price. For skiers, there’s only a basic ski cellar, with no tourist card for ski-pass discounts and no shuttle to nearby ski areas. The hotel allows pets for an extra €20 a day, but not in the restaurant, which seems odd. At the same price, Austrian hotels offer much more and at a much higher level, making this place look shameful by comparison.

The breakfast was good and the area around the hotel is nice. But I didn’t feel welcome at all by the owner. My single room was gloomy, like a broom cupboard, the blanket and pillowcase had several stains, and the waste bin hadn’t been emptied.
