Le Antiche Terme

The warm croissants left in the wooden box outside our door each morning were a lovely touch, as were the Christmas lights decorating the house. We spent two nights in the classic double cabin and loved how it sits among the greenery, with nature all around. Inside, everything was carefully arranged, from the towels and bathrobes laid out on the bed to the snacks and drinks waiting when we arrived. The spacious hot tub was comfortable and spotless, and the pellet stove kept us warm even with the cold outside. The cabin had all the comforts we needed. It's also just a few minutes from Viterbo's center, with free parking on Via Faul and elevators up to town. Mrs. Simona made us feel at home with a warm welcome and great suggestions. We'd happily return.

Getting there means taking more than 500 meters of dusty dirt road. Once at the property, I found the bungalow poorly kept, not very clean, and cramped, especially the tiny bathroom. The breakfast was just a couple of croissants and a few cake slices in a plastic bag, while the coffee machine didn't work and the shampoo and soap were very limited. There's no daily housekeeping. From the photos and comments I expected a peaceful, romantic retreat, but that wasn't what I found.

We waited in our room from early afternoon and heard nothing until about 8 pm, when we were called to use the spa. The so-called spa was an inflatable tub, nowhere near a real jacuzzi, and condensation dripped onto our heads from the ceiling. The aperitif buffet was good, but drinks were limited to prosecco, with no water. The little shampoo provided was barely enough, so bring your own. It fell well short of what we expected.

The owners were warm and helpful, and we'd gladly come back. We loved the privacy and independence of the stilt house, with its adjoining relaxation area in the spectacular Tuscia countryside. It feels made for couples who want some intimacy. The aperitifs were generous and very good. Both the stilt house and the single room with jacuzzi were excellent.
